Work Health and Safety Consultant

Job Description

Location: Flexible (within Australia)

Type: Permanent, full time position

At QBE, our purpose is to enable a more resilient future.

We’re an international insurer and reinsurer with a local presence in 27 countries.

Leveraging our deep expertise and insights, QBE offers commercial, personal and specialty products and risk management solutions to help people and businesses manage risks, build strength and embrace change to their advantage.

We’ve been cultivating resilience since 1886, when our founders started a marine insurance company in Townsville, Australia to give early pioneers a safeguard against uncertainty.

Today, we employ more than 11,600 people around the world, and our product portfolio includes property, motor, crop, energy, marine and aviation insurance.

The opportunity

QBE Insurance is proud to support the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees and are seeking a new Work Health and Safety (WHS) Consultant to join the team on a permanent basis. In this important role, you will:

  • Maintain WHS incident reports and management systems, and use Insight to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry codes and company policies
  • Manage our health and safety offerings, working with external third parties as required to strengthen and support this
  • Nurture strong working relationships between the WHS team and the broader business, advocating for a safety-first culture and achieving buy in to initiatives
  • Fulfil administrative requirements of a high-compliance role, including reporting and board papers

Your story so far

This is a highly rewarding role with a broad scope for success. Combining your prior WHS knowledge and experience (ideally from a corporate environment) along with your commercial savviness and influencing skills, you will achieve positive results which impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of our people. You will have a strong program management skillset with a self-starting autonomy, harnessing your sense of innovation and strategic thinking to fulfil program requirements whilst also identifying opportunities for improvement.

Critically important to your success in this position are your stakeholder/relationship management skills. You have an innate ability to engage with and influence stakeholders across the business and nurture strong working relationships. Your energy and personalism means you can influence and achieve buy in from others which lead to successful outcomes for our people and the business.
